Reading time: 5 minutes
Two weeks ago, Microsoft released the documentation outlining the upcoming features in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2. In our first blog, we explored the exciting advancements in CoPilot and Agent capabilities. Today, we shift our focus to the Country and Regional enhancements, as well as the Development updates that are set to shape the next iteration of Business Central. For a full overview of the release plan, visit here.
Country and Regional Enhancements
The following changes has been announced to the different country versions of Business Central, and will be available in the upcoming release. So this will not be available to everyone. But for those of you in the relevant countries this is what you can expect to see change.
Global Expansion
As with every release, Microsoft continues to expand Business Central into new countries and regions through partner-led localizations. These localizations are published on AppSource, enabling broader global adoption. While the specific countries for this release are yet to be confirmed, Business Central is already available in over 170 countries and regions worldwide.
United Kingdom: Localization as an Extension
The UK localization is now available as an extension to the base app. This shift removes country-specific customizations from the core application, streamlining implementation and reducing costs. Organizations operating across multiple regions will benefit from easier environment connections and improved access to ISV solutions. Learn more.
Czechia: UI Improvements for Unreliable Payer
Enhancements to the Czech localization improve the user interface for managing vendor bank accounts and unreliable VAT payer data. These updates offer more intuitive dialog interactions and better accessibility to key functionalities, helping users reduce errors and save time. Learn more.
United States: IRS 1099 Electronic Submission
Building on the 2024 Release Wave 1 introduction of this new feature, Microsoft now enables electronic submission of IRS 1099 forms via API integration with the IRIS platform in this release. This feature streamlines reporting and reduces operational costs. Additionally, starting with version 27, the legacy 1099 feature will be deprecated, and the new functionality will be enabled by default. Users are encouraged to manually activate the new feature for greater control. Australia: Compliance with Payment Times Reporting Bill
Large businesses in Australia with annual turnovers exceeding $100 million must comply with the Payment Times Reporting Bill. The new localization feature helps these organizations report how and when they pay small business suppliers, ensuring regulatory compliance. Learn more.
Development
One of the most anticipated updates in this release is the ability to extend Copilot functionalities using AL code. Previously, developers were limited in customizing Copilot behavior, but that changes with Release Wave 2. Two key areas of extensibility are introduced:
Extend Copilot autofill using AL
Autofill with Copilot, introduced in the previous release, helps users by suggesting field values during data entry. Now, AL developers can extend this feature to include fields that are critical to their business processes, reducing errors and improving efficiency. Read about this announcement here.
Extend Copilot summaries using AL
The Summarize with Copilot feature condenses complex records into brief, insightful summaries. With this release, developers can contribute to these summaries using AL code, ensuring that the most relevant and accurate information is presented to users. Read about this announcement here.
Wrapping Up
The 2025 Release Wave 2 brings meaningful enhancements to Business Central, particularly in localization and development flexibility. From expanded country support to extensible AI features, Microsoft continues to empower organizations with tools that are both powerful and adaptable. Stay tuned for the next blog in our series, where we’ll explore application functionality (finance and supply chain), reporting, and data analysis improvements.
