Part 1: CoPilot and Agent Enhancements
Tuesday, July 29, 2025
Reading time: 7 minutes
In the past week, Microsoft unveiled the official documentation for the 2025 Release Wave 2 of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. As always, it’s packed with innovation, refinement, and a clear direction for the future of AI-powered ERP. In this first blog of our series, we’ll focus on what’s new and planned for CoPilot and Agent capabilities. You can explore the full release plan here, and be sure to watch this space as we dive into other areas in upcoming posts.
CoPilot: Smarter, Faster, More Capable
While no brand-new CoPilots are being introduced in this wave, the enhancements to existing ones—especially the Sales Order Agent—are substantial and worth your attention.
Sales Order Agent: Smarter Automation
The Sales Order Agent continues to evolve with a host of new capabilities:
- Expanded instruction handling: You can now provide more nuanced instructions when reviewing tasks.
- Attachment processing: Attachments can be processed directly within the agent workflow.
- Multi-ship-to support: Orders with multiple delivery addresses are now handled seamlessly.
- Capable-to-promise integration: The agent can now factor in availability when responding to order requests.
- Automated emailing: Responses and confirmations can be sent automatically, reducing manual follow-up.
As expected, the Payables Agent—having just been released—remains unchanged in this wave.
Chat with CoPilot: More Languages, Better Understanding
The CoPilot chat feature, still in preview, is getting a significant upgrade:
- 20 new languages added to the supported list.
- Improved prompt comprehension for more natural interactions.
- Faster and more reliable performance, making it a more dependable assistant in daily workflows.
Sustainability Gets a Boost
In a nod to ESG priorities, CoPilot can now assist with greenhouse gas (GHG) emission suggestions in sustainability journals. This helps businesses track and manage their environmental impact more effectively, directly within Business Central.
Autofill with CoPilot: Now Web-Powered
The Autofill feature is getting a serious upgrade:
- Smarter field suggestions based on context.
- Expanded language support.
- Web-powered intelligence: You can now leverage Bing search capabilities to enhance autofill suggestions, making them more dynamic and relevant.
Use Your Own AI Resources (If You Want To)
By default, CoPilot in Business Central uses Microsoft-managed Azure OpenAI resources. This simplifies setup and billing for most customers. However, for those with specific needs, the platform now supports using your own Azure OpenAI subscription—whether in production or sandbox environments.
This flexibility:
- Enables custom AI governance.
- Supports unified AI consumption tracking across multiple solutions.
- Simplifies billing and monitoring, especially for ISVs and partners.
MCP Server: The Gateway to AI Agent Integration
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is a game-changer. In simple terms, it acts as a bridge between Business Central and external AI agents. By exposing core entities like customers, items, and sales orders through a standardised API, it allows:
- Seamless integration with AI platforms like Azure OpenAI and Copilot Studio.
- Conversational interaction with ERP data.
- Automation of repetitive tasks and workflows.
This means faster decisions, more intuitive user experiences, and a significant boost in operational efficiency. While this may not seem like much, this is a major improvement, basically giving any agent outside of Business Central, even custom agents the ability to connect to, and work with Business Central, this is a much bigger change than you might think.
Enhanced Analysis Assist
CoPilot’s Analysis Assist is getting smarter:
- You can now ask CoPilot to include fields from related tables, making your queries more powerful.
- A new system permission set allows admins to control access to this feature.
- These changes aim to boost creativity, eliminate tedious tasks, and surface anomalies in your data using natural language.
Summarise with CoPilot: Faster, Deeper Insights
The Summarise with CoPilot feature is also being enhanced:
- Deeper insights on popular pages like customer cards.
- Activity highlights from anonymous agents.
- Expanded language support (20+ new languages).
- Faster summary generation, helping you get to the point quicker.
Wrapping Up
This release wave may not bring brand-new CoPilots or Agents, but the enhancements across the board are meaningful. From smarter automation and sustainability tracking to deeper analysis and flexible AI integration, Microsoft is clearly doubling down on making Business Central more intelligent, intuitive, and impactful.
Remember to join the Business Central Launch event and watch the What’s New videos once they are released on YouTube, and keep an eye out for the MCP server changes, as I do believe that it is a huge leap in terms of the Agentic AI changes coming in Business Central.
Stay tuned for the next blog in this series, where we’ll explore what’s new in application functionality, reporting, and platform improvements. And as always, keep an eye on for the latest updates here.
