Reading time: 7 minutes
Over the past month, Microsoft has been releasing documentation highlighting what’s new and planned for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2. In this article, we’ll dive into the latest updates focused on eCommerce and Electronic Documents. If you’ve been following along, this is the fourth blog in our series. You can find more details on the official release plan page.
As always, keep in mind that Microsoft continues to update their documentation, so we’ll be publishing a wrap-up blog at the end of the series to cover any changes that have occurred since the initial posts, and this time there has been a lot of changes.
eCommerce
Use the latest update for the Shopify Connector
As expected, Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2 will always support the latest shopify connector, which is currently the July Shopify API. Shopify updates its API quarterly, and Business Central aligns with the latest version in each release. If you’re currently on 2025 RW1, which uses the January API, you’ll need to upgrade before January 2026 to stay supported. (Each API is only supported for 12 months.)
This update includes several enhancements:
- Cash rounding on POS
- Weight in exported sales invoices
- New fulfillment statuses
- Renamed toggles and reports
- Bulk updates of product variants
- Country code support
- Order archiving
- The Business Central fulfillment service
For full details, check out the release notes.
Troubleshoot the Shopify Connector
When issues arise between Shopify and Business Central, resolving them quickly is key to keeping systems in sync. This release introduces enhanced logging and troubleshooting tools for refunds, product creation, a new order total fact box and additional fields in archived sales orders will help to streamline diagnostics, and make fault finding easier. More info here.
Enable staff-to-salesperson mapping for Shopify orders
Business Central’s Shopify integration now supports mapping staff members from Shopify POS to Salesperson records in Business Central. This is especially useful for B2B stores looking to improve reporting and traceability. Note that this is a one-way sync from Shopify to Business Central. Learn more here.
Synchronize market-specific prices with Shopify
This new feature allows you to synchronize prices tailored to specific markets directly with Shopify. It ensures that customers in different regions see the correct pricing, improving the overall shopping experience. More details here.
Define sell-to and bill-to customer details per company location
You can now define different sell-to and bill-to customer details based on company location. This is particularly useful for businesses operating in multiple regions, allowing for more accurate documentation and billing. More info here.
Electronic Documents
Use the E-Documents framework with Power Automate and other solutions
This feature enables integration of Business Central’s e-document capabilities with external applications via APIs. You can now send and receive e-documents through various channels, automate purchasing processes, and enhance document handling. Details here.
Send e-documents via a service and email simultaneously
Originally planned for RW1, this feature now debuts in RW2. It allows simultaneous sending of e-documents via both service and email, eliminating the need to manually send documents in multiple formats. More info here.
Use payments with the E-Document framework
This enhancement improves tracking of e-documents by showing payment status—fully paid, partially paid, or unpaid—at a glance. As with the previous feature this one too was actually planned for RW1, now finally making it’s way into the product in RW2. Learn more here.
Use the ForNAV Peppol connector for e-documents
The ForNAV connector joins the growing list of supported e-document connectors. 5 connectors are already supported, with ForNAV bringing the total to 6. Built on the new interface introduced in RW1, it simplifies integration and leverages modern technology. More details here.
Export reminders and finance charges as PEPPOL files
Business Central now supports exporting finance charges and reminders as PEPPOL files. While not all document types are supported yet (e.g., service invoices), this is a step forward in expanding PEPPOL capabilities. More info here.
Use the Admin permission set with e-documents
A new admin permission set allows better control over e-document features, ensuring only authorized users can manage critical configurations and e-document setups. By separating administrative tasks into a separate permission set that can be assigned to users, it enhances security and governance. Learn more here.
Use e-documents for shipment and transfer shipment document types
This update supports e-documents for both shipment and transfer shipment types, helping businesses meet regulatory requirements and streamline logistics. This feature is obviously only for regions that require this functionality. More details here.
Set up the Clearance model in the E-Documents framework
The clearance model allows businesses to configure how documents are validated and approved before submission, ensuring compliance with local regulations. This could mean sending a document to the local tax authority for approval before sending the document to the Customer. More info here.
Use purchase draft page to preview Peppol electronic invoices
The purchase draft page now supports previewing Peppol electronic invoices, making it easier to create purchase invoices from inbound documents, even without GL or item mappings. More details here.
Conclusion
