What Are Copilots in Dynamics 365 Applications?
To discuss the out-of-the-box copilots in Dynamics 365 Sales, it is important to first explain what they are in Microsoft Dynamics 365 applications and their basic purpose.
Copilots in all Dynamics 365 applications serve as AI helpers for end-users, potentially enhancing productivity and improving user experience.
All Dynamics 365 applications include some copilots, which can be found in key areas of each application. It means Dynamics 365 Sales has its own Copilots, primarily designed to assist and increase the productivity of salespersons.
These copilots are included in the Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise license at no additional cost.

Dynamics 365 Sales Copilot: Features and Capabilities
Let us delve into Dynamics 365 Sales Copilots. Primarily, Copilots in Dynamics 365 Sales have access to Accounts, Leads, and Opportunities. This access allows them to provide users with various combinations of data, which can be advantageous in daily operations.
Interactive Natural Language Conversations
The Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales stands out because it can be accessed as a general table, allowing you to chat and get relevant data without leaving the application. This includes Specific Account information, Recent Opportunities, Opportunity Pipelines, reports, and summaries.
From this screen, users can navigate using hyperlinks, delve deeper into pipelines, directly summarize records, and more. With Natural Language conversation capabilities, there are numerous possibilities.
When a salesperson is interested in a specific opportunity and needs assistance from Copilot, here is what they can do:
1. Personalized Summaries
Once Copilot is enabled, it provides a customizable summary every time you open an Opportunity, Account, or Lead. You can then start chatting with it immediately.
2. Highlights of Recent Activities
Copilot can review recent activities on the record and provide Highlights. This feature is useful if the conversation with the customer has been extensive and covered various channels, allowing you to quickly prepare and manage the task efficiently.
3. Online Searches and Document Retrieval
Copilot has the ability to perform online searches and retrieve relevant information about customers, directly within the Dynamics 365 Sales application. It can also search SharePoint to quickly find documents related to products or other matters, including PDFs, PowerPoints, Word documents, and more.
4. Email Drafting
Importantly, Copilot offers the ability to assist in creating and drafting emails for clients, effortlessly adjusting tone and length. Additionally, it can utilize real data from Dataverse while preparing proposals within Dynamics 365 Sales, all without the need to constantly switch applications.
5. Insights from Auditing
Enabling Auditing for Opportunities, Accounts, and Leads allows you to ask Copilot about recent changes or similar records. This helps you track colleagues’ activities and find successfully closed Opportunities with similar offers, which can improve your chances of closing a deal.
Easy One-Click Enablement
After discussing their features, the next step is to enable these Copilot functionalities. To do so, you need to be an admin of the application and have a Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise License. Here’s how to enable it:
- Navigate to the Dynamics 365 Sales settings: Access the settings menu in your Dynamics 365 Sales environment.
- Locate the Copilot settings: Find the section dedicated to Copilot features.
- Enable the Copilot: Toggle the switch to activate the Basic Copilot functionality.
- Confirm and save: Save the settings to activate the Copilot.
