On Aug 29, 2023, Gretchen LaBelle, from Microsoft’s Worldwide Learning organization wrote in her blog on Microsoft Tech Communities:
“Coming January 2024: The new Microsoft Certified: Business Central Developer Associate certification.
In January 2024, we’ll release the new Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer Associate certification and its associated Exam MB-820: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer (beta).”
What do we know about MB-820?
MB-820 is finally announced as the Associate certification for Business Central Developers! It has been long-rumored but finally we know that the Beta is starting from January 2024. This exam is an “Intermediate” level exam, matching MB-800 for the Functional Consultant. This is not an “Advanced” certification. At the time of writing this blog, there is no Advanced Certification for Business Central. The only way of attaining Advanced Certification points towards MCPP, is to pass Exam PL-600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect.
What does “Beta” mean for an exam?
When an exam enters the Beta phase, it means that only a certain number of candidates can take it. This is intentional, because Microsoft requires 400 participants to take the Beta option to evaluate the effectiveness of the new exam. There is a discount for those who want to take part in the Beta, and even if you do not qualify for the discount, you can still secure a place on it, but do not expect to know your pass/fail results immediately!
