Microsoft FY27 GTM Priorities: What Dynamics 365 Partners Need to Know

11 August, 2026

Reading time: 15 minutes

Every July, Microsoft sets the tone for the year ahead by announcing its new MCAPS priorities, GTM direction, and partner benefits. This year’s update is especially important for Dynamics 365 partners, as Microsoft enters FY27 with a sharper focus on AI-led transformation, agentic solutions, and measurable customer outcomes.

During the July edition of the Companial GTM Hub Quarterly Update Call, Olga Generalova, Senior GTM Program Lead at Companial, summarized the most relevant Microsoft FY27 MCAPS and GTM updates for Companial partners, with a particular focus on Dynamics 365, Business Central, marketing, sales, and partner-funded activities.

Below is a practical summary of the key takeaways and what they mean for your go-to-market strategy this year.

You can watch the video recording of this session HERE.

1. Microsoft FY27: From AI Experimentation to AI Outcomes

The biggest message from Microsoft’s FY27 MCAPS update is clear: AI is no longer an experimental theme. It is now central to Microsoft’s strategy, partner motion, and customer transformation agenda.

In FY26, many organizations were still exploring AI and testing early use cases. In FY27, Microsoft’s focus shifts toward helping customers achieve measurable business outcomes through AI, agents, and agentic systems.

For partners, this means the conversation is moving from:

  • “What can AI do?”
  • to “How can AI improve business processes, productivity, operations, and customer value?”

Microsoft expects AI agents to become increasingly embedded in business operations over the next few years, with strong emphasis on practical adoption, business impact, and long-term transformation.

Key FY27 themes partners should pay attention to

2. “Frontier Transformation” Becomes the New Strategic Language

One of the new themes introduced in Microsoft’s FY27 messaging is the idea of the frontier firm: an organization that uses AI, automation, and agents to reshape how work gets done.

Microsoft’s FY27 language includes concepts such as:

These terms are likely to appear more frequently in Microsoft partner messaging, sales plays, funded activities, and campaign narratives throughout the year.

For marketers, this is more than just new terminology. It is a signal of how Microsoft wants partners to frame AI-led transformation: not simply as productivity improvement, but as a broader business evolution.

3. Solution Plays Are Now “Conversations”

One of the biggest practical changes for FY27 is the shift from Solution Plays to Conversations.

In simple terms:
Conversations are the new version of Solution Plays.

The structure remains familiar, but Microsoft has updated the naming, content, and positioning. Instead of starting with products or workloads, the new approach encourages partners to begin with customer challenges, discovery questions, and value-led discussions.

What is a Microsoft “Conversation”?

A Conversation is a guided sales and marketing framework that helps partners connect:

The important shift is that Microsoft wants partners to lead with customer needs, not product features. The product comes later, once the business challenge is clearly understood.

4. SMB Conversations Are Especially Relevant for Dynamics Partners

For most Companial partners, the most relevant track is SMB Conversations. These are organized around partner type and workload, including AI Business Solutions partners, which includes Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 partners.

Microsoft continues to group Modern Work and Business Applications partners under the broader category of AI Business Solutions partners, reflecting a stronger push toward cross-selling between Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365.

For Dynamics 365 and Business Central partners, this creates an important opportunity: positioning ERP, CRM, and business applications as part of a broader AI-powered productivity and business management story.

5. Business Central Remains a Strategic Opportunity

Microsoft continues to place “big bets” on Business Central, which is good news for partners focused on Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Three growth motions were highlighted as especially important:

–       Cross-sell Business Central into the Microsoft 365 install base

Microsoft sees a significant opportunity to reach Microsoft 365 customers who are not yet using Business Central. According to the webinar, only a small share of Microsoft 365 customers currently use Business Central, leaving a large untapped opportunity for cross-sell and co-sell motions.

–       Continue moving legacy on-premises customers to the cloud

Cloud migration remains a strong and relevant motion. Partners should continue helping customers move from legacy on-premises systems to cloud-based Dynamics 365 solutions as a foundation for future AI adoption.

–        Compete for customers using non-Microsoft ERP solutions

Microsoft is also encouraging partners to be more proactive in competitive displacement, especially where customers are using alternative ERP platforms. The goal is to position Microsoft as the system of record for productivity, business management, and future AI-enabled operations.

6. What’s Inside a Conversation?

Each Microsoft Conversation includes a broad set of sales and marketing resources designed to support the full customer journey.

Depending on the workload, partners can access materials such as:

For Business Central partners, the relevant Conversation highlighted in the webinar was “Scale business processes with agent-powered finance.” This Conversation links Business Central to customer challenges around finance, operations, productivity, and AI-powered business process improvement.

7. Microsoft’s Win Formula Still Stays the Same

While Solution Plays have become Conversations, the underlying Microsoft sales methodology remains the same.

Microsoft Customer Engagement Methodology (MCEM), also known as Win Formula, continues to guide how assets are organized across the customer journey.

The stages include:

For marketers, the first two stages are especially important because they focus on awareness, discovery, education, and early-stage engagement. For sellers and consultants, the later stages provide more sales, pre-sales, deployment, and post-sales resources.

8. Funded Activities: Important Changes for FY27

One of the most important updates for partners is the change in Microsoft commercial incentives and funded activities.

In FY27, Microsoft commercial incentives are now closely associated with the term Frontier Accelerate. Partners can expect to see this wording used across incentive names and funded engagement programs.

The key change: fewer funded marketing activities

For marketers, the biggest change is that previously funded activities such as Immersion Briefings and one-to-one discovery workshops are no longer available through Microsoft commercial incentives in the same way.

However, the assets themselves are still available. Partners can still use:

9. Specialization Matters More Than Before

Another important FY27 change is partner eligibility.

According to the webinar, Microsoft is becoming stricter about who can access certain benefits and funded activities. In the past, having a designation could be enough for some funded activities. In FY27, partners may also need the relevant specialization to qualify.

This makes partner readiness an important priority. Partners should review their Microsoft designations, specializations, and eligibility requirements early to avoid missing out on available benefits.

10. What Funded Opportunities Remain for Business Central?

For Dynamics 365 Business Central, the webinar highlighted two main funded post-sales opportunities:

  1. Deployment Accelerator
This incentive supports deployment activities and is linked to deal value.
  1. Conversion Bonus
This bonus applies when partners bring a customer from a competitive solution to a Microsoft Dynamics 365 workload.

While the marketing funding picture has changed, these post-sales incentives still create opportunities for partners who are actively driving deployment and competitive takeout motions.

11. Campaign in a Box and Campaign Guides Are Still Available

Even with changes to funded activities, Microsoft continues to provide a strong library of campaign content and sales enablement materials.

The webinar emphasized that the updated Campaign in a Box and campaign guides are worth reviewing, especially because many assets have been refreshed around AI themes.

These resources can help partners save time when building campaigns by providing ready-made or adaptable:

For partners planning AI-led campaigns this year, these assets are a practical starting point.

12. What Partners Should Do Next

To make the most of Microsoft FY27 GTM opportunities, Dynamics 365 partners should consider the following actions:

  • Review the new SMB Conversations
Start by identifying which Conversations align with your primary workloads, especially if you focus on Business Central, CRM, ERP, or broader business applications.
  • Update your messaging around AI outcomes
Move beyond generic AI messaging. Focus on concrete business outcomes, such as improved productivity, better financial processes, operational efficiency, and smarter decision-making.
  • Use Microsoft assets to accelerate campaign creation
Explore Campaign in a Box, campaign guides, immersion briefing kits, and sales playbooks before creating new materials from scratch.
  • Check Co-op fund availability
If your marketing team has lost access to specific funded commercial incentive activities, investigate whether co-op funds can support demand generation campaigns instead.
  • Review your partner readiness
Make sure your organization understands which designations and specializations are required to access relevant Microsoft benefits and funded activities.
  • Build cross-sell motions with Microsoft 365
If your organization already works with Microsoft 365 customers, explore how Business Central or Dynamics 365 can be positioned as the next step in their business transformation journey.

Final Takeaway

Microsoft FY27 brings a clear message for partners: AI-led transformation is moving from vision to execution. For Dynamics 365 and Business Central partners, this creates significant opportunities, but also requires sharper positioning, stronger readiness, and a more outcome-led approach to customer engagement.

The shift from Solution Plays to Conversations is more than a naming change. It reflects a broader push toward value-led selling, discovery-driven engagement, and practical AI adoption. Partners who align early with this new GTM language and use the available Microsoft assets strategically will be better positioned to activate opportunities, support customer transformation, and drive growth in the year ahead.
